Here at Synthetic Turf Maintenance we have over 15 years’ experience of working with artificial grass/turf therefore we know exactly how it works and ways of preventing this.

Artificial turf football pitches require a great deal of maintenance when they are being used regularly to allow the greatest lifespan of the product and increase pitch performance. This will allow each player to perform to the best of their ability. Astro Turf and 3G Pitch maintenance for your artificial turf football pitch involves a combination of both preventative and corrective maintenance but one of the most important aspects is the pitch infill levels.

Why is it important to maintain 3G and sand based football pitches?

Maintaining Football Pitch Infill

Protecting Football Pitch Fibres

Football pitches are often infilled with a layer of recycled rubber to add resilience and give a controlled ball bounce. Occasionally with football pitches the infill levels (evenness of rubber levels) often move around the pitch especially with the frequency of tackles. The rubber and sand levels often move further towards the edges of the pitch therefore drag brushing is needed to ensure that this can be evened out to generate a smooth level playing surface.

Artificial turf football pitches have soft non-abrasive fibres which hug the ball and allow for sliding tackles. These must be protected by the infill. Thoughout the first few months after installation the infill levels of the sand normally decrease (which is perfectly normal). Sand levels should be monitored as it can protect the carpet fibres and ensure the longevity of the product.

Pitch Seam Repairs

Seam repairs on football pitch line markings should be done as soon as possible to prevent further damage of the pitch and therefore allowing the surface to be used as soon as possible and prevent any matches being postponed.

Safety is a priority at STM and we encourage all pitch providers to get their surface prepared at the nearest possible date. We even offer an emergency maintenance package
